Ferret rescue and shelter in St. Mary's county. The first in Southern MD that I am aware of. We take in ferrets that are no longer wanted, or than someone is no longer able to care for. Being located near PAX base, I understand that some areas, like Washington DC and California do not allow someone to keep a ferret for a pet, so am expecting, and welcome, ferrets that have to be surrendered due to relocation.

Our mission is to build and operate a private, nonprofit, state-of-the-art animal shelter to serve the pets and people of Calvert County and surrounding areas. Our vision is to provide a friendly, caring environment to promote adoption of unwanted, homeless dogs and cats. We now offer educational programs to children to teach kindness, mold attitudes, and clearly define responsible pet care and respect for animals. Our Spay and Neuter certificate program gives financial assistance to lower income families to remove the barrier of cost. Please visit our website or contact us for information on becoming a volunteer.

Calvert County Animal Control provides assistance to citizens with domestic animals. The Calvert County Animal Ordinance addresses all regulations set forth in regard to animals, a copy may be obtained from Animal Control. Calvert County has a leash law for dogs, meaning if a dog is off the owner's property it must be on a leash; and a control law for cats, meaning if a cat is off the owner's property it must be under a person's control. All dogs and cats must possess an animal license, this must be purchased annually. Licenses are sold at Calvert Animal Hospital, Chesapeake Animal Hospital, Prince Frederick Animal Hospital, Calvert County Courthouse, Solomons Veterinary Clinic, and Tri County Animal Shelter. All animals must possess a current rabies inoculation. Whether owned or stray, any animal that breaks the skin of a person or other animal must be reported to Animal Control and be quarantined for 10 days, regardless of rabies inoculation. One can reach Animal Control through the Sheriff's Office at 410-535-2800 or (301) 855-1194. A Lost and Found Report is kept by the Tri County Animal Shelter, their hours are Monday through Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sundays 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. They may be contacted at 1-800-903-1992.

The goal of Charles County Pets on Wheels is to arrange for volunteers and their pets to visit residents of nursing homes and provide "pet facility therapy". However, our emphasis is on serving patients who have been unresponsive to on going activities. Many of these patients have impaired cognitive abilities due to senility or Alzheimer's disease and react to animals with more awareness than to people around them.

We are a people friendly volunteer group committed to finding loving and responsible forever homes for retired racing Greyhounds. Their age at retirement range from 20 mos-4 years and their life expectancy is 12-15yrs. They make wonderful indoor pets but must be kept on leash when not in a fenced in enclosure. Our Greys come to you completely vetted(and altered), with an adoption kit and our fee is: $250. Greyhounds are calm, gentle, and quite the couch potatoes! Come visit us and see for yourself how wonderful they are.
