WASHINGTON - The Seahawks surprised undefeated Catholic University in their first conference game of the season last night in Washington, D.C. by limiting them to a 28.1 shooting percentage in the first half. The Seahawks led the game at halftime 28-27, and extended the lead to seven after the break when guard Dan Engelstad popped a three with 13 minutes left in the game.

But the surprises ceased when the Cardinals tied the game up, and then took the lead late with a three pointer the put them up 65-62.

St. Mary's had a chance to knot the game up before the buzzer, but their possession resulted in a turnover and the Seahwaks quickly fouled. Catholic's guard Steven Papageorge sunk both his free throws with the clock reading three seconds, and the Seahawks chances were over. The Cardinals won the game by a final score of 67-62.

Engelstad was the Seahawk's leading scorer with 17 points while center Alex Irmer added 16 and guard Tyson Lesesne contributed 15.

The Seahawks will return to conference action this Saturday afternoon with a game against Marymount University at home.
