The College of Southern Maryland's Men's Soccer Team finished the season 17-5 and repeated as Region XX champions. Earning its first-ever back-to-back Region XX championship, CSM's Men's Soccer team has two of the top scorers in the country in Brandon Gross (73 points) and Guil Costa (59 points). Gross and Costa were also named to the 2006 All-Conference First Team for the Maryland Junior College Conference; MDJUCO's All-Conference second team includes Jorge Lopez, Dan Heaney and Gabriel Portillo. Players named to the region's All-Tournament Team are Gross, Costa, Lopez, Heaney, Dan Funk and Cullen McKenzie.
"We are very proud of this group of young men and the coaches for competing at such a high level and representing CSM in such a positive way," said Michelle Ruble, assistant director, student life.
Ranked 12th in the pre-season National Junior College Athletic Association Division 1 soccer poll, CSM enters the Mid-Atlantic District competition after clinching its regional title last weekend against CCBC-Essex, winning 2-1. "The way we came together and worked as a family really impressed me. We had lost to Essex earlier in the season, but we were able to put that behind us, and work together as one unit. That's the reason we won," said Head Coach Tony Galeano.

(Lake Braddock High School); Gabriel Portillo of Springfield, Va. CSM alum and a former Hawk as well, Galeano is in his fifth season as head coach of the Hawks and has been selected as Coach of the Year during three seasons.
