After the events of September 11th we haven't heard much about old Slick Willy and his quest for a legacy. Well it seems the attack might just be that legacy that he was seeking. Let me explain. The Clinton administrations failure to act upon intelligence information offered to them by the government of Sudan concerning bin Laden and the al Qaeda, in my mind, directly contributed to our non-preparedness to counter such attacks.
It seems that the Sudanese government wanted to share information that it had been gathering since the mid 1990s. The Mukhabarat (Sudan's Intelligence Agency) made repeated attempts to share the data on these terrorists with the United States, but no one was listening. It is reported that the FBI was interested (as they should be) but were blocked by State Department intervention.
Why would the State Department act so irresponsibly concerning potential dangers to our safety? Aren't these actions criminal, or, at least, bordering on criminal conduct, that they should be held accountable for? And finally, isn't William Jefferson Clinton, as their leader, equally culpable? After all, it was his incompetent policies that established how State would execute foreign policy and that failure that lead to this attack. We had a chance to prevent this from happening but turned our blind eye away.
The last US Ambassador to Sudan, whose posting ended in 1997, Tim Carney, had the following to say about this ordeal, "The fact is, they were opening the doors, and we weren't taking them up on it. The U.S. failed to reciprocate Sudan's willingness to engage us on some serious questions of terrorism. We can speculate that this failure had serious implications-at least for what happened at the U.S. Embassies in 1998. In any case, the U.S. lost access to a mine of material on bin Laden and his organization. It was worse than a crime."
Carney contends that our intelligence failed because it had become politicized by the Clinton Administration. The information from Sudan was not fitting into preconceived notions that the Clinton CIA and State Department held so it was ignored over and over. The previous administration treated Sudan as a terrorist state when in fact it seems that they wanted to be a friend and ally.
I wonder how Slick Willy can live with himself knowing all that he knows. Was it a mere coincidence that both he and his Senator wife have set up shop in New York or did he have some other more diabolical reason? Well Billy-boy, the news is breaking and again you are at the center of controversy. Nothing new here as you have worked that way all your life.
Now I hope someone in the Department of Justice (hello John Ashcroft) looks at this as a crime and drags your butt into court to explain why you would leave America's proverbial pants around our ankles. Just because you spent so much time like that is no excuse to leave us exposed in such a manner. William Jefferson Clinton's time has come to answer for another of his crimes. In my mind he has been bin Laden's ally and we should lock him up with all of the others that have aided and abetted the attacks we suffered on September 11th. All I can say is you now have your legacy and I hope it satisfies you that you helped kill so many innocent Americans. Way to go Billy-boy. |
