LEONARDTOWN, Md. (February 13, 2012)—The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office and Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) Narcotics Division today released the following incident and arrest reports. The Division is an investigative team comprised of detectives from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland State Police Drug Enforcement Division, and Federal Drug Agents (HIDTA Group 34). The Division was established on September 1st, 2007 and is based in St. Mary’s County.
POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA: On February 9, Deputy Wood stopped a 1996, Mercury for an equipment violation on Pegg Road in the area of Pacific Drive in Lexington Park. The driver was identified as James Eric Dorsey, 18 of Lexington Park. As Deputy Wood was speaking with Dorsey, he noticed a strong odor of burnt marijuana emitting from the vehicle and Dorsey's person. A probable cause search revealed Dorsey to be in possession of a plastic baggie containing suspected marijuana. Dorsey was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.
DRIVING UNDER INFLUENCE OF PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION: On February 11 at approximately 12:00 a.m., Deputy Shomper was on patrol in the area of Three Notch Road and Mount Wolf Road when he a vehicle pulled to the shoulder of the road with its hazard lights flashing. Deputy Shomper investigated. Paul Henry Deatley, 20 of Waldorf, was the operator of the vehicle and Hugh Howard Heiss, III, 20 of Mechanicsville, was the passenger. Investigation revealed Deatley to be operating the vehicle while under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance. Deatly was arrested. Further investigation revealed suspected controlled dangerous prescription medication concealed in the motor vehicle. Deatley and Heiss were both charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance - suspected Xanax.

POSSESSION OF OXYCODONE AND ALPRAZOLAM: Vice Narcotics detectives indicted Margaret Ann Saylor, 42, of Mechanicsville, for Possession of Oxycodone and Possession of Alprazolam with the Intent to Distribute. A search and seizure warrant was executed on the Mechanicsville residence after an investigation indicated prescription medications were being sold from that location. During the search, 183 Oxycodone pills (Street Value $5,490), 148 Alprazolam pills (Street Value $730), and various other items were seized. Suspect George Mattingly Sr., 60, was on the scene, but not the target of the investigation. A check revealed Suspect Mattingly was wanted for Failure to Appear. A search incident to his arrest revealed Oxycodone pills in plastic on his person.

POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA, COCAINE WITH THE INTENT TO DISTRIBUTE: As a result of an ongoing drug distribution investigation, Betty Lou Mason, 42, of Lexington Park, and her son, Charles Darnell Mason, a/k/a "Little Man" were indicted. Suspect Betty Lou Mason was identified as a distributor of cocaine and undercover purchases by Vice Narcotics detectives were conducted. Charles Darnell Mason was found to be in possession of felony amounts of cocaine and marijuana at the home they share. Both parties were previously charged with misdemeanor charges related to the search warrants and these new charges are as a result of the larger investigation. Suspect Betty Lou Mason was indicted for multiple counts of Distribution of Cocaine and suspect Charles Darnell Mason was charged with Possession of Marijuana with the intent to Distribute and Possession of Cocaine with the Intent to Distribute. Both were originally held without bond. Additional arrests are pending.
PRESCRIPTION FRAUD: Vice Narcotics detectives indicted Michelle Lee Anderson, 37, of Lexington Park, for Prescription Fraud, Possession of Oxycodone with the Intent to Distribute and Possession of Codeine with the Intent to Distribute. Suspect Anderson is part of a larger network of prescription drug distributors illegally obtaining various medications and then selling them on the street. Suspect Anderson was held without bail and several additional arrests are expected.
DISTRIBUTION OF OXYCODONE: Karen Lynn Jones, 37, of Leonardtown, was indicted after Vice Narcotics detectives observed her distributing Oxycodone. She was arrested and originally held without bond.
POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA: Judy Marie Smith, 32, of Lexington Park, was arrested after a search warrant on her home revealed marijuana. She was arrested and additional charges are pending a State's Attorney's Office review.
