Posted on “We owe a special thank-you to River’s Edge for offering to donate a portion of their profits to our Teen Court program, said Sheriff Rex Coffey. “The management, staff and diners who participated in Dine to Donate have contributed to a program that helps get young offenders back on the right track and offers educational volunteer opportunities to teenagers interested in participating in the criminal justice system.” Teen Court is a voluntary juvenile justice diversion program offering first-time offenders, ages 12-17, the opportunity to accept accountability for their minor crimes without having to incur a permanent criminal record, according to the sheriff's office website. Teen Court allows juvenile respondents to be judged by a jury of their peers. The goal is to reduce the number of youthful offenders and educate youth in a realistic court environment.
