ANNAPOLIS (Nov. 12, 2008) – Governor Martin O’Malley is teaming up with Maryland Public Television for the launch of “Ask the Governor: Special Edition of Direct Connection,” a monthly live program that will feature direct questions from members of the public. The half hour program, hosted by MPT’s Jeff Salkin, will debut on Monday, November 24 at 7:30 p.m.

“This is an extraordinary opportunity to partner with Maryland Public Television and speak directly with the people of Maryland about their concerns and ideas for our shared future,” said Governor O’Malley. “This program, which will become a fixture on MPT for future administrations, will allow us to continue that dialogue that we began almost two years ago.”

Beginning this week, Governor O’Malley’s weekly electronic newsletter, One Maryland, will feature a prominent icon through which members of the public can submit questions directly to Maryland Public Television for use during the program. Questions can also be submitted to directconnection (at) mpt.org. Live callers will also be taken during the program at 1-800-926-0629.

“MPT is excited to join with Governor O’Malley as we usher in a new tradition providing Marylanders regular access to their state’s chief executive,” said Robert Shuman, President and CEO of Maryland Public Television. “Governor O’Malley understands how important it is to stay in touch with the citizens of our state—keeping them informed of what’s going on in state government and—perhaps just as importantly—to listen to what they have to say. This is the mission of MPT and we are proud to bring this new service to everyone throughout the state of Maryland.”

Beginning in December, the program will run regularly on the third Wednesday of each month. Periodic promotions will run on Maryland Public Television throughout the month to remind viewers of the air time, and to encourage public participation in the program.
