LEONARDTOWN, Md. (July 14, 2008) -- Police in St. Mary's County have arrested and charged an illegal alien with the 2nd degree rape and 2nd degree assault of a 23 year-old Lexington Park woman. In the early morning hours of July 13, BCI detectives charged Alverio Dominguez, age 24, of no fixed address, with the crimes.
Police say the arrest came as a result of an investigation into a rape which allegedly occurred on July 12 at approximately 10 p.m. in Lexington Park. Detectives determined that the suspect, who was unfamiliar to the victim or anyone else at the home, saw a social gathering outside of the victim's residence and walked over to the yard to participate.
Police say Dominguez entered the victim's bedroom after she left the gathering to go to sleep and assaulted her. Dominguez fled to a nearby residence when another person at the victim's home heard the victim calling for help and attempted to enter the locked bedroom.
Deputies say they located Dominguez hiding under a bed and took him into custody.
The victim was treated at St. Mary's Hospital.
Dominguez was incarcerated at the St. Mary's County Detention Center.
