HUGHESVILLE, Md. (June 5, 2007) - A serious five car accident early this morning in Hughesville sent three area citizens to hospitals via helicopter with serious injuries. The incident occurred at 6:20 a.m. at Maryland Route 231 and Siesta Fields Place, in Hughesville.

A 2005 Dodge truck, operated by Robert Charles Hall Jr. of Mechanicsville, was traveling east bound on Md. Rt. 231 near Siesta Fields Place, Hughesville, Md. Police say Hall was passing in a no passing zone. As Hall attempted to return to the east bound lane it struck a 2002 Lexus, operated by Elvis Michael Ward of Randallstown, Md., and lost control.

Hall's truck went into an uncontrolled spin, traveled into the west bound lanes and was struck by a 2004 Mazda Tribute, operated by Clara Diane Gilley of Mechanicsville. A 1999 Chevrolet Tracker, operated by William Joseph Johnson of North Beach, Md., was traveling behind Gilley and rear ended her vehicle.

After Hall's truck was struck by Gilley's Mazda, Hall's vehicle continued in the west bound lane and struck a 2003 BMW X3, operated by Joseph Leslie Hardin of Hughesville, Md., which was slowing to avoid the collision. Hall's truck then caught on fire. Hall was able to escape the fire.

Robert Charles Hall Jr. received incapacitating injuries and was transported to P.G. General Hospital via MSP Helicopter Trooper 2.

Clara Diane Gilley received incapacitating injuries and was transported to P.G. General Hospital via MSP Helicopter Trooper 2.

William Joseph Johnson received incapacitating injuries and was transported to P.G. General Hospital via MED Star Helicopter Eagle 2.

Elvis Michael Ward received minor injuries and was transported to Civista via ambulance. Joseph Leslie Hardin received no injuries.

Police say charges are pending on Robert Charles Hall Jr. According to court documents, Hall was found guilty of CDS Manufacture/Distribute-Narcotics in 2005 for an incident that occurred in November 2004.
