Friendship House is among 16 homes in the Washington Metropolitan Area selected by NARI for the tour and featured in the September 2006 issue of Southern Living Magazine. The tour will take place September 30, 2006, and October 1, 2006, from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. each day. The tour fee is $10. The proceeds from tour tickets purchased at Friendship House will benefit Christmas in April of Charles County. Christmas in April provides home repair and rehabilitation services for low-income elderly and disabled homeowners. Friendship House, formerly known as The Manor House, was built in 1890 as part of a 2,000-acre farm. The home now consists of a 5.5-acre parcel with stately boxwoods and azalea gardens, along with some apple trees planted by the owner's grandfather who farmed the property during the depression era. The home has undergone many transformations during its history. The most recent renovation, the addition of a two-story sunroom with loft and a first-floor master bedroom and bath, was constructed by S.D. Lohr, Inc., an award-winning NARI contractor in Waldorf. The addition more than doubled the home's living space. Friendship House was also chosen for the 2004 Maryland House and Garden Pilgrimage. Friendship is located at 8325 Bensville Road in Waldorf.
