Drugs, DUIs, Property Destruction & Assaults Keep Police Busy in Calvert


Destruction of Property

On January 10th, 2005 at 7:30am, Dfc Basham responded to Rich's Quick Lube, located at 8806 Donald's Way, Owings, Md. for a reported destruction of property. Investigation revealed unknown suspect(s) broke a garage door window with a brick. There are no suspects at this time.

Theft

On January 10th, 2005 at 2:15pm, Dfc T. Smith responded to the 9200 block of Atlantic Ave. North Beach, Md for a reported theft. Investigation revealed unknown suspect(s) took a framing gun that was left unattended on the job site. There are no suspects or witnesses at this time.

CDS Violation

On January 10th, 2005 at 9:42am, Dfc Wahlgren conducted at traffic stop in the area of Md Rt 2/4 and Cove Point Rd., Lusby, Md. Based on observation made during the stop a search of the vehicle was conducted. In a backpack belonging to the passenger; Joshua L. Coleman, 20 years of age with no fixed address, Dfc Wahlgren located two non-conventional smoking devices containing suspected marijuana. Coleman was placed under arrest and charged with possession of CDS and possession of CDS paraphernalia. He was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center for processing.

CDS Violation

On January 11th, 2005 at 12:48pm, Sgt Ireland conducted a traffic stop on H.G. Trueman at Calvert Cliff State Park, Lusby, Md. Based on observations made during the stop a search of the vehicle and it's occupants was conducted. The search revealed three scales, a plastic bag containing loose suspected marijuana and three other plastic bags containing packaged suspected marijuana. The following were placed under arrest and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center for processing:

Robert L. Baldwin Jr., 23 years old of Lusby, Md.
Gary W. Wommack, 21 years old of Lusby, Md.
Charles E. Fabritz, 19 years old of Lusby, Md.
They where charged with possession of CDS and CDS paraphernalia.

CDS Violation

On January 12th, 2005Dfc M. McCarroll conducted a traffic stop in the area of Md Rt 2 and Md Rt 260 Owings, Md. A check of the operator's driver license revealed it was suspended. He also had an open warrant for his arrest. Pedro A. Rice, 35 years old of Sunderland, Md. was placed under arrest without incident. A search of the vehicle was conducted and a partially burnt hand rolled cigarette containing suspected marijuana and a non-conventional smoking device containing suspected crack cocaine was located. Rice was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center where he was charged with possession of CDS and possession of CDS paraphernalia.

Destruction of Property

On January 12th, 2005 at 10:32am, Deputy M. Jones responded to the College of Southern Maryland, located at 115 Williams Rd., Prince Frederick, Md. for a reported destruction of property. Unknown suspect(s) spray-painted graffiti on the building, a pump shed, a tractor-trailer and a compartment container. There are no suspects at this time.

Armed Robbery

On January 13th, 2005 at 1:39am, a suspect entered the 7-11 store located at 2849 Chesapeake Beach Road West, Dunkirk, Md. and committed an armed robbery. He is described as a black male, 5'9" to 6'1", 160 lbs. He was wearing a dark two-tone ball cap with a dark coat and dark pants. He displayed a small handgun and demanded money. He fled the store on foot. The Calvert Investigative Team is investigating this case. Anyone with information on the case should contact Det. Luppino of Sgt Naughton.

CDS Violation

On January 14th, 2005 at 6:16am, Dfc McCarroll placed Jane A. Ballard, 50 years old of Temple Hills, Md. under arrest for an open warrant. She was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center for processing. Correctional Officer Briscoe searched Ballard and found several small plastic bags containing suspected heroin and a straw used to snort the suspected heroin. She was charged with possession of CDS and possession of CDS paraphernalia.

Destruction of Property

On January 14th, 2005 at 11:24am, Dfc Foote responded to the 3000 block of Queensberry Drive, Huntingtown, Md. for a reported destruction of property. Investigation revealed unknown suspect(s) dented the hood of a vehicle parked in the driveway and broke an umbrella pole located on the back deck. There are no suspects at this time.

Destruction of Property

On January 14th, 2005 at 11:29am, Dfc Figueiras responded to the 8700 block of Chesapeake Lighthouse Dr. North Beach, Md. for a reported destruction of property. Investigation revealed unknown suspect(s) slashed two tires on the victims van. There are no suspects at this time.

CDS/DUI

On January 15th, 2005 at 12:05am, Deputy Milam conducted a traffic stop in the area of White Sands Drive and Swallow Lane, Lusby, Md. He made contact with the vehicle driver. He was identified as Paul W. Morgan; 42 years old of Lusby, Md. Deputy Milan began conducting Standardized Field Sobriety Test. During the test, Morgan turned and ran from the scene trying to elude police. Deputy Milam gave chase and caught Morgan in a wooded area. A struggle ensued and both Morgan and Deputy Milam landed on the ground. Morgan was subdued and handcuffed. A search of Morgan revealed a razor knife in his waistband. A search of his vehicle revealed a non-conventional smoking device containing suspected crack cocaine. Morgan was charged with possession of CDS, possession of CDS paraphernalia, DUI and numerous other traffic charges.

Destruction of Property

On January 16th, 2005 at 4:45pm, Deputy Gatton responded to the campground in the Chesapeake Ranch Estates for a reported destruction of property. Investigation revealed the victim was driving in the area of the campground when she heard two loud thumps. She pulled off the road and saw two suspects running from the area. The victim's boyfriend caught one of the suspects and the second returned to the scene. Deputy Gatton spoke with both suspects and they admitted to throwing potatoes at the vehicle. The suspects are juveniles and were charged on youth reports with destruction of property and released to their parents.

2nd Degree Assault/Disorderly Conduct/Resisting Arrest

On January 17th, 2005 at 4:48am, Deputy Gatton was dispatched to 1410 Stoakley Road, Prince Frederick, Md. for a reported missing person. A description of the missing person was broadcast. Deputy Gatton saw a person who fit the description of the missing person walking along Stoakley Rd. Taylor F. Klein refused to cooperate and began to yell profanities at Deputy Gatton. Klein ran from Deputy Gatton and a short chase ensued. Klein stopped running, turned and lunged towards Deputy Gatton. Klein was subdued and placed in handcuffs. He was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center where he was charged with 2nd Degree Assault, Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Arrest.

2nd Degree Assault/Disorderly Conduct

On January 17th, 2005 Dfc Cress responded to the Calvert Memorial Hospital for possible disorderly person that would be arriving with an ambulance. Dfc Cress was advised that Clint M. Potter, 31 years old of Chesapeake Beach, Md. had become disorderly in the 6300 block of 15th, Street in Chesapeake Beach, Md. while the Ambulance crew was attempting to render aid to Potter's girlfriend. He also struck one of the ambulance crew in the chest with his elbow. As Potter arrived at the Hospital he was observed running into the Emergency Room Waiting area. He was loud and was using profanity. He told by Dfc Cress to calm down and stop using profanity. He refused and was placed under arrest for Disorderly Conduct and 2nd Degree Assault on the Ambulance crewmember. He was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center for processing.

To Date the Calvert County Sheriff's has made 22 DUI arrest.
