Senator Roy Dyson (D-Calvert, Charles, St. Mary’s) rose on the Senate floor today to deliver “very sad news” of the passing of Young Duke “Y.D.” Hance.
Senator Dyson praised Hance for his service as the first Maryland Secretary of Agriculture under former Governor Marvin Mandel and asked asked that Senate Majority Leader Nathanial McFadden (D-Baltimore City) adjourn the day ’s Session in honor of Secretary Hance which McFadden did.
A sympathy resolution on behalf of the entire Maryland Senate is being prepared for the Hance family per Senator Dyson’s request.
“Adjourning the Day’s Session in memory of an individual is very rare which serves as testament to how well respected and revered Secretary Hance was,” Senator Dyson said afterwards. “I was deeply, deeply saddenend to hear of my longtime friend’s passing and will miss him very much. His contributions in his role as Secretary of Agriculture and the farming community can not be overstated. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.”
