Welcome to our Christmas guide for the 2016 Holiday Season.

Christmas in Southern Maryland means many things. To some it stirs memories of the Solomons Christmas Walk. Others think fondly of stuffed ham and other local delicacies. And still others recall volunteering for the Mike's Bikes food drive and spending Christmas Day serving meals for Mary's Song.

However you spend your holidays, we have compiled a guide filled with local activities, volunteer opportunities, how to receive help if you are in need, local tree farms, gift ideas and loads of fun facts about our favorite time of year.

Dee Jay has also selected some of the best Holiday sites on the Internet for your amusement and edification.  You will find them on the lower left side of each page under Links to Other Cool Holiday Sites.

Did you know... In ancient Rome, people hung decorative wreaths as sign of victory of God over Satan with Jesus' birth into the world.

We at Southern Maryland Online wish you the happiest of holidays and hope the new year brings you peace, joy and prosperity. And we thank you for your support in 2008 — your kind letters, your comments and suggestions, and all of your help in making Southern Maryland Online the #1 internet resource and on-line community for Charles, Calvert, and St. Mary's Counties.

If you have suggestions for what you would like to see in this year's guide, please write to us and we'll be sure to consider it.

The spectacular Christmas lights on display at the Flat Iron Farm, on Flat Iron Road in St. Mary's County, have become a Southern Maryland tradition.  The farm is owned by Mr. Knott, founder of the Great Mills Trading Post company. He opens his farm museum and horse stables to the public as well.  Be sure to dress warmly!
