The Community Services Division of St. Mary’s County Recreation, Parks and Community Services strives to encourage interagency collaboration and the sharing of information and resources; promotes volunteerism and facilitates community empowerment; and serves as an advocate for the development and well being of children, youth and families in order to develop self-reliant and responsible communities and citizenry. The Division, with the collaboration and assistance from a variety of State and local agencies, offers many programs that promote alcohol & drug abuse prevention, community mobilization, highway safety, and volunteerism. The St. Mary's County Department of Public Safety is a multi faceted agency that provides 9-1-1 services through Emergency Communications, disaster preparedness, response, mitigation and recovery through its Emergency Management Division, and enforcement of animal regulations through the Animal Control Division. The Department of Public Safety, through its three divisions, works hand in hand with all county and state law enforcement agencies, St. Mary's County Volunteer Fire and EMS department, as well as all Local, State and Federal Government departments and agencies. The St. Mary’s Department of Economic & Community Development (DECD) staff works on behalf of all citizens and businesses to secure a sound, resilient economy. Department divisions include Business Development, Housing, Tourism, Agriculture & Seafood, and the Community Development Corporation. DECD staff can direct qualified business to government programs which provide financing, workforce training and technical assistance. The staff also coordinates with other county, regional, state and federal agencies to promote and expand markets and encourage investment. The department produces the Technology Handbook, tourism brochures written for many audiences and a housing list of available rental properties.
