As the name applies, SMGGWA is an association of local grape growers and wine makers. State and local governments have been working with local farmers to transition them from the tobacco crops of yesterday to the crops of tomorrow. Grapes are one such crop. The association works with its members to share information and resources on grape growing and wine making. Meetings and seminars are held four times a year.
We can also accept inquiries about the Southern Maryland Wine Growers Cooperative (SMWGC). SMWGC is a committee set up by SMGGWA to form a coop with the hope of operating a winery in Leonardtown known as the Port of Leonardtown.
Dues are $25.00 per year. When mailing your check, please be sure to provide your mailing address, phone number, and email. Also, please specify how the quantity and type of vines that you grow, or hope to grow.

Solomons Island Winery was founded as a micro-winery by Ken & Ann Korando in the fall of the year 2002. We are located on 9.3 acres just north of Solomons Island in southern Calvert County, Maryland along the idyllic shores of Hungerford Creek. We are growing a small amount of our own grapes, however our wines are currently produced predominantly from fruit produced by other growers. As such we are able to produce a wide variety of wines.
