Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative provides electric service to all of Charles and St. Mary's counties, all but the northern tip of Calvert County, and the southern portion of Prince George's County. SMECO is a cooperative corporation, owned by its members and operated for them on a non-profit basis. Rates are based on the cost of doing business. Surplus income, if any, is returned to the members through Capital Credits.
