St. Mary's County is home to the Patuxent River Naval Air Complex. It is also home to Historic St. Mary's City. The county seat is Leonardtown-the only incorporated town in the county. Other communities include Wicomico Shores, Golden Beach, Loveville, Hollywood, California, Bushwood, Tall Timbers, Piney Point, Callaway, Lexington Park, St. Inigoes and Ridge among others. If you like the water life, St. Mary's County is for you. It is surrounded on three sides by the Chesapeake Bay, The Patuxent River and the Potomac River.

The first capital of Maryland (from 1634 - 1695). Discover a place that has been welcoming families for more than three centuries. Maryland's 17th-century capital is a place where fun and heritage go hand-in-hand. It is an open-air living history museum that's kid friendly, with exhibits that include a square-rigged ship, re-creations of an Indian hamlet, and a plantation. Leonardtown is the county seat and the only incorporated town in St. Mary's County. The town is governed by Mayor Dan Burris. Leonardtown has an interesting and rich past dating from the town's inception as the site of all County Courts in 1708. We also are facing the promise of an exciting and prosperous future. Our proximity to Washington, D.C. and recent expansion of nearby Patuxent River Naval Air Station certainly insure continued growth and economic opportunities.

St. George Island is located in the southern part of Maryland in St. Mary's County. The island has a long history, founded in 1634. It was the site of the first battle in Maryland during the Revolutionary War. It is now a community of watermen, full-time residents, and vacation homes. [ More info & photo ]
