Kelly Palmer is a new-age quilter. The perky 20-something from Leonardtown lights up when she speaks of her quilting obsession. "My grandmother taught me to sew, but I took classes in quilting a few years ago," she says. "I just love seeing how they turn out; it's challenging and fun. I like the brighter colors and designs but I also enjoy putting new fabrics into traditional patterns." A prolific quilter, Palmer estimates she has made nearly 40 quilts since 2007, each one a gift. "I give them all away to family and friends. It's a labor of love and it's fun picking fabrics that reflect the recipient's personality and seeing their reaction when I give it to them," she says.
