The Southern Maryland Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America was organized in June of 1958, and was then called the Charles County Chapter. Since that time, the chapter has been continuously involved in most of the important conservation and environmental issues that effect Southern Maryland. We have a long history of offering youths outdoor education and activities through our fishing derbies, hunter education, wildlife food plot, and scholarship programs. Our base of operations was formerly in Hughesville where many members devoted much time and energy to a catering operation in order to raise funds for our chapter projects. In 1990, the chapter purchased a beautiful 141 acre farm in Waldorf that includes approximately 60 acres of the Zekiah and Jordan swamps with the goals of protecting a portion of the swamp and of building the Southern Maryland Outdoor Education Center. In 1998, we sold our facility in Hughesville in order to finance and speed up the development of the outdoor education center. For further information about our chapter and our activities, projects and goals, we invite you to browse through our web page.[ Last Updated: 13-May-2013 | Hits: 695 | Reader Comments Report Problem
