Event:  The Refinery
Location:  St. Paul's UMC, Leonardtown, MD
Time:  6 PM   Duration:  01:30 hours
Author:  thanksforthe mammaries
Where: St. Paul's UMC, Leonardtown (in front of st mary's hospital)
Time: 6:00pm (last about 1 1/2 hrs)
When: Every sunday.

What is the refinery:
The Refinery started as a conceptual 'church within a church' back in the spring of 2004, with weekly meetings and team-building based out of St. Paul's UMC in Leonardtown, MD.

We first opened our doors as a Saturday night service called "the Ro4c" (which stood for "Reaching Out for Christ") on September 11, 2004, based around a relatively traditional church model with more upbeat music. About a year and a half later the service moved to Sunday nights, and the name change happened about another year after. As is obvious, we've done a lot of changing in our short life.

The current Refinery, while akin in spirit to our first Saturday night roots, looks very different physically and programmatically, for we have learned a few lessons in our years (and we continue to learn). We're not a traditionally modeled church, we're an experiential, (dare I say) emergent service, interested in real, true, & biblical faith, not simply religion. We do small groups for we see great value in community, silent reflection for faith is personal, corporate worship for faith is to be shared, experiential elements for faith is real, and the list goes on. We started this with the goal of "Reaching Out for Christ". We've come to realize that 'reaching out' means that you actually have to DO SOMETHING, and as Christians, we have a responsibility to live out our faith.

That's a little about us. Come and tell us about you.

What do we believe?

Man, there's a question, right? It's not like there's been a struggle for truth since the dawn of man or anything...

But seriously, what we believe as Christians, regardless of denomination, has been a subject of real controversy throughout the 2 millenia since the birth of Christianity. It even shows up in the New Testament, written only a few short years after Jesus death and ressurection:

Galatians 2:
11 But when Peter came to Antioch, I had to oppose him to his face, for what he did was very wrong. 12 When he first arrived, he ate with the Gentile Christians, who were not circumcised. But afterward, when some friends of James came, Peter wouldn't eat with the Gentiles anymore.

Sure, some of the topics of disagreement have changed, but the conflict is still there, and at its root there is the simple question: What is truth?, and it's a great question to ask.

I'm not going to claim we have all the answers, but we're going to try to have some civilized conversations. We'll get more articles below as we all write them.

Nov 8: Introduction to QiGong for Energy Alignment and Self Healing
With Leanora Winters, MS, RMT, SSR.

Spring Forest Qigong is an advanced, simple, and powerful form of Qigong. It was developed in China by Qigong Master Chunyi Lin. Qigong which means to cultivate or refine one’s vitality or life force through practice is the basis of Chinese medicine. Qigong addresses the root cause of sickness, and heals the body physically, mentally and spiritually. The goal is to enhance the quality of life by teaching us ways to open our energy channels and maintain balance. Qigong heals more rapidly and completely than conventional western medicine. It is a completely safe and non-invasive form of energy healing that is very relaxing, vitalizing and can be used in conjunction with both “modern” and alternative healing modalities. (Chunyi Lin)

During this workshop, learn how to activate and cultivate your vital energy; use mental concentration, controlled breathing and sound to clear energy blockages; develop self awareness; identify “Qi” (vital energy) blockers; identify the six keys to success in Qigong healing. Practice Spring Forest Qigong’s powerful, healing sitting meditations and active exercises.

In fact, very little is truly as expected. But those are the lessons that come after experience, which this tale proves to tell. Fortunately, true love rules as the couple passes through the seasons of romance, loss, triumph and joy.

The Fantasticks will play Thursdays through Sundays from November 6th through the 22nd at Three Notch Theatre (across from the post office) in Lexington Park.
