Join us on Saturday, September 22, at Regency Furniture Stadium, home of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, for a day dedicated to Daniel, the entire McPherson family, and the ongoing battles of all those dealing with cancer.

Over the course of his brave battle, Daniel would regularly travel to UM Medical Center in Baltimore to receive treatment. Closer to home, however, he was also able to get hydrated and stabilized at UM Charles Regional Medical Center.

This is your chance to help provide even more vital medical technology for both UM Medical Center and UM Charles Regional Medical Center, as a portion of the proceeds from this event with directly benefit the hospitals’ foundations.

9:30—11:30 A.M. Oral History Workshop: Learn new levels of listening to yourself and others and develop interviewing skills to record life stories. The workshop will be led by Carrie and Michael Klein, who have been described by former workshop participants as "Eye-opening, provoking, educational, and inspirational teachers”

Michael and Carrie Kline, are folklorists, audio producers, singers and guitar players, who met through a mutual love for the spoken word and song. Their production company, Talking Across the Lines: Worldwide Conversations, has documented both individual narratives and interwoven expression of broad communities. The Klines are experienced at teaching deep listening, oral history and Appalachian heritage. They are seasoned audio producers and public folklorists. Their courses have attracted students from various disciplines and professionals of all kinds, including social workers and carpenters, educators and museum directors, and life-long learners.

11:30—12:30 P.M. A “Meet the Author” Reception will follow the Oral History Workshop. Long-time UCAC member Merideth Taylor will talk about her recently published book, Listening In: Echoes and Artifacts from Maryland’s Mother County. Books will be available for purchase. The Godiah Spray Tobacco Plantation is closed today, while household members participate in Muster activities.

Enjoy live music all afternoon at RiverFest, located on the State House lawn, where food and beverage vendors are also offering selections for sale.

Chris Bowen and Heather Scott announce the 13th Annual Poker Run Helping the Burnett Calvert Hospice House has been rescheduled to September 22, 2018. The event is sponsored by Buckets Sports Bar in Lusby. Registration is from 10:30 to 11:59 pm at Buckets. Stop locations include: The Tavern, Heavy Hitters, Seabreeze, Toot's Bar, and Buckets.

The after party begins at 4 pm at Buckets and will feature a live auction, food, music by DJ Rick, door prizes, raffles, free giveaways, and beer specials. The committee will continue to accept donations of silent auction items and giveaways.
