AARP Tax-Aide/IRS certified counselors will provide free tax preparation and electronic filing for low-to moderate-income taxpayers of any age in St Mary’s County, with special consideration for those 60 and older. Taxpayers do not need to be a member of AARP. Taxpayers (and spouse if married) must show picture ID and have a social security card for everyone to be included on the tax return. Bring a copy of your 2016 tax return, income information (W-2, 1099-DIV, 1099-INT, 1099-MISC, 1099-G, etc.), documentation for deductions and tax credits, Form 1095-A if health insurance was purchased through the Market Place or Exchange), and banking information for direct deposit of your refund. Call 240 466-1740 to schedule an appointment at a site near you. This is an automated service; leave your name and phone number and your call will be returned. Walk-In Service is available for taxpayers on Mondays and Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturdays 9 a.m. to noon, at Church of the Ascension, 21641 Great Mills Road, Lexington Park. We are not able to prepare returns for businesses with employees or losses, farms, rental properties, or partnerships. Additional information is available at: www.smctaxaide.org .

With spring just around the corner, it’s time to break out your bike and give it a good old once over. Cycling volunteers Dan and Diana Donahue will give a free bike assessment at the Northern Senior Activity Center. They will check the condition of your tires, chains, brakes, shifters, cables. Get your tires pumped and your seat properly adjusted so your bike fits you. Space is limited. Each week will include a video exploration of Holy Week through the masterpiece artwork of renowned artist John August Swanson and explanation of the Scriptural stories.
