October 26: Dr. Torben Rick, Archaeologist, National Museum of Natural History, on "Evolution of a Fishery and the Decline of an Estuary: Historical Ecology and Archaeology of the Chesapeake Bay." The lecture will explore the archaeology and historical ecology of the Chesapeake Bay focusing on Native American exploitation of oysters, crabs, and other bay resources. These data provide important context and backdrop for the conservation and management of the Chesapeake and other estuaries around the world and also offer hope for future sustainability.

For several years the Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum (JPPM) Speaker Series has delighted audiences throughout the local area with a mix of topics that are timely, widely varied and thought provoking. The 2017 JPPM Speaker Series continues this tradition offering an intriguing mix of accomplished individuals from a wide range of professions, industries and areas of expertise discussing various topics—something for everyone . All lectures start at 7:00 p.m. at the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory (MAC Lab) and are FREE and open to the public, unless otherwise noted.
