The Department of Community Planning and Building coordinates planning activities within Calvert County Government. The department consists of: Planning and Development Review, Zoning, Permitting and Citizen Relations, Long Range Planning, Inspections & Permits, and Appeals, Variances and Exceptions. The department administers the zoning ordinance, subdivision regulations and the building code. It provides information and guidance to the community and to the Board of County Commissioners concerning growth and development in Calvert County.

The future development of "Armory Square", the site of the old National Guard Armory and Calvert Middle School, has been a hot topic in recent years. Prerequisites for this development include the updating of the County Comprehensive Plan, and a rewrite of the County Zoning Ordinance. Mr. Barnett is directing both projects, and his presentation will afford the public the opportunity to learn the process and pose relevant questions.
