His Royal Highness King Henry VIII cordially invites you to join the Department of Aging & Human Services on trip to the Maryland Renaissance Festival in Crownsville, MD, on Saturday, Sept. 9; deadline to sign up is Aug. 20. Be transported back to the 16th century as you roam the 27-acre village of Revel Grove and explore its many artisans and shops. Enjoy the merriment of dancing, singing, comedy, armored combat, and so much more. This trip takes place rain or shine and the village is located on natural terrain in a wooded area. The festival is ideal for active seniors with a love of the arts; you can even bring your camera and participate in their photo contest! The trip cost of $58 includes transportation on a spacious motor coach, driver gratuity, snacks, and admission to the festival. Food is purchased separately from one of the 42 different vendors offering a variety of cuisine. Creating Change Locally recognizes and supports small businesses, entrepreneurs, and creative minds that want to make an impact locally and globally.

On the driving motivation behind the event, Lead Organizer Becky Shaw says “TEDxLeonardtown allows us to showcase some of the community members’ work and provide a stage to share Southern Maryland’s local change creators with the rest of the world, through the TEDx YouTube channel.”

Live at Jeff Patt presents You Should Be Dancin' is a fundraising event with proceeds earmarked for a new state-of-the-art learning space, the JPPM Education Station. The space is planned with flexibility in mind to allow more opportunities to deliver educational programs.

On September 9, 2017 Charles Regional Medical Center Foundation will host our 20th Annual Autumn Wine Tasting and Silent Auction on the grounds of the historic Port Tobacco Court House. Over 1,000 attendees stroll through the charming venue and courtyards enjoying live music, sampling more than 30 wines, and indulging in the selections of more than a dozen cuisine stations hosted by area restaurants. Sunset brings twinkling lights and an ambiance for guests to enjoy specialty beverages or our open bar while perusing our famed silent auction or visiting our cigar lounge. Attendees enjoy a fantastic autumn evening under the stars with friends while supporting Charles Regional Medical Center. This year, proceeds from the Wine Tasting will help fund a new Center for Breast Health to meet our goal of providing hope, support, and care for our family, friends, and community members as they cope with breast care issues. A Contra Dance, sponsored by Southern Maryland Traditional Music and Dance (SMTMD), featuring caller Susan Taylor, will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the Christ Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 37497 Zach Fowler Rd, Chaptico, MD. The doors open at 7:00pm and the dancing begins at 7:30. Contra is a traditional American style of social dance and is a huge amount of fun (and exercise) for the whole family! If you’ve ever danced a Virginia Reel or been to a Square Dance, you have a good idea how much fun it can be. If you haven’t, it’s about time you tried it! Beginners are encouraged to arrive at 7:00 to get some instruction in the various dances. Admission is $10 for non-SMTMD members; $6 for members (band members are free). No special clothing is required! You need to be comfortable, to move freely. There will be an ice cream social following the dance. For more information and directions go to www.smtmd.org
