Just before dawn on June 26, 1814, residents of St. Leonard in Calvert County, Maryland awoke to the sounds of cannon fire. Here, with the help from American Marine and Infantry shore batteries, Commodore Joshua Barney's Chesapeake Flotilla fought to break through the British blockade at the head of St. Leonard Creek near what is now Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum (JPPM).

Join JPPM as we commemorate one of Maryland's fierecest battles on Saturday, September 24, with the "1812 Fair and Reenactment" from10 am to 5 pm and "Tavern Night" from 6 pm to 10 pm. The event is a full day of entertainment, food, family activities, games and fun set amidst living history.

Children's Games and Activities—Fun for the whole family! Delve into period crafts and games, hugely popular anchor and pulley, bosun chair and ox cart rides. Learn to play the game of rounders or cricket from Instructor Simon Spaulding.

Battle Reenactments—Across from the park pavilion on cannon hill, relive the sights and sounds of battle featuring reenactors from the Maryland Light Dragoons , 16th Regiment of the Maryland Militia, Calvert Arundel Swordsmen and Friends of Maryland's War of 1812, Inc.

Hands-on Demonstrations—Get your own miniature profile portrait from Silhouettes by Hand with Lauren Muney, weaving lessons from the Calvert Spinners and Weavers, blacksmith demonstrations from Black Forest Artworks, hands-on sewing, knot tying, and much more.

Entertainment—Everyone will delight in the performance from slack rope walker and juggler, Signora Bella. Taking center stage in the park pavilion is event newcomer the English Country Dance Group. Musical performances from Four Sheets to the Wind and theatrical presentations by The History Warehouse.

Self-Guided Tours—The "FARMERS, PATRIOTS and TRAITORS: Southern Maryland and the War of 1812" Interpretive Exhibit combines informative panels with exciting artifacts and images that help bring the exhibit to life.

Stop by the visitor center to view exhibits on the history of the JPPM property and those who lived here. View artifacts from every county in Maryland and learn about archaeological discoveries made here on Park & Museum property. Don't forget to stop by our Visitor Center Gift Shop and enjoy 25% off. The shop offers merchandise and literature for children and adults with a focus on local and regional history and the people and culture of the times from primitive America to today. Featuring historical and contemporary games and toys, souvenirs, and arts & crafts by local artisans.

The event culminates with Tavern Night! Enjoy an evening experience full of the sights and sounds of an 1800's tavern featuring live music by Ship's Company. Beer, wine, and food will be available for purchase all day.

Entrance to the 1812 Fair and Reenactment is $3 per person or $10 per car. Tavern Night is $10 per person, $8 for Friends members or guests in period costume. All proceeds from Tavern Night will support educational programming at JPPM.
