Seniors in St. Mary’s County will have a chance to prepare an Advance Care Directive with the assistance of a bar-certified lawyer during Law Day, to be held on Tuesday, May 2.
An Advance Care Directive gives an individual the opportunity to appoint a person or persons to make their health care decisions for them, indicates when a health care agent’s authority becomes effective, state desires concerning the administration or withholding of life sustaining procedures (if an individual is unable to give instructions regarding care due to an end of life condition), includes the choice of artificial nutrition and hydration and/or all available interventions, states wishes concerning organ donation and preferences regarding funeral and burial, and more.
Law Day is free of charge. Call or email St. Mary’s County Department of Aging & Human Services Community Programs & Outreach Manager, Sarah Miller, at 301-475-4200, ext. *1073 or sarah.miller@stmarysmd.com. Also, feel free to visit one of the county’s local senior activity centers to schedule an appointment. Center locations below:
