It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The Town of Poolesville invites area residents to its 11th annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony on Friday, Dec. 2 at 6 p.m. in Whalen Commons, located at 19701 Fisher Avenue in Poolesville. Town officials and community members have planned a fun-filled evening of family-friendly holiday festivities, including an Ice Skating Rink.

The festivities will include the following:
—A chance to visit Santa’s workshop.
—A ride aboard the “Polar Express,” for a trip around Whalen Commons.
—Entertainment, including “Twas the Night Before Christmas” by Grace Sheppard, area resident
—Wagon rides through town, provided by outdoor adventure organization Calleva
—Amazing ice sculptures created by Joseph Stebbing, area artisan.
—First Friday Holiday Shopping and Cookie Crawl sponsored by Poolesville Area Chamber of Commerce

“It is incredible to see our community work together every year to bring in the holiday spirit all around Poolesville,” said Jim Brown, President of the Poolesville Town Commission. “Having an event that not only benefits the community but also surrounding area families makes all the work put into this day worth it.”

In order to ensure that the celebration will also benefit area families in need, Poolesville also urges event attendees to bring a new, unwrapped toy to support Western Upper Montgomery County Help, Inc. (WUMCO). The toys will be distributed to local children in need.

Food and refreshments will be available for purchase, including items from Corned Beef King, Holy Crepes, Mooey's, Annie’s Addiction and Java Cruiser. For more information, visit the Town of Poolesville’s website at www.poolesvillemd.gov.

It is Christmas Eve, 1936. William Gillette, an actor famous for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes, has invited his fellow cast-members to his Connecticut castle for a weekend of revelry. But when one of the guests is stabbed to death, the festivities in this isolated house of tricks and mirrors quickly turn dangerous. Then it’s up to Gillette himself, as he assumes the persona of his beloved Holmes, to track down the killer before the next victim appears. This glittering whodunit has murder, infidelity, wit, and surprises—something for everyone.
