With so many terms and dates being used for foods, they can be confusing. What does the date on a product mean—is it an expiration or production date? What are those codes and do you know that you can decipher them! What exactly do Best Before, Use By, and Sell By mean? How does storage affect the quality of foods? The FDA and USDA have guidelines for our food sources, including fresh poultry/meat and canned, packaged and frozen foods. Food quality and shelf life varies for different types of food including how it's handled before it gets to you and what you do with it once purchased. At the conclusion of the presentation, handouts will be available as well as a drawing held for free refrigerator thermometers. To sign up for this free class in advance, please visit the signup table or call 301-475-4200, ext. *3101 no later than Thursday, Aug. 10.
