   Grocery Auction

Come join us at Mother Catherine Academy as we host a Grocery Auction with Farrell Auction Services.

Grocery auctions have been gaining popularity all over the country and are one of the most exciting and well-attended type of auctions.

The groceries arrive in a refrigerated trailer from distribution centers and major grocery stores throughout the area. Some items are over-stocked; some have “sell by dates” too close to put on grocery shelves; some are brand-name products and some or not.

We never know ahead of time what we are getting, but expect anything that could be found in a grocery store such as candies, snacks, sodas, frozen meats, frozen vegetables, frozen pizza, can goods, dry goods, cleaning supplies, dairy products, or just about anything else in between.

We accept cash, check or credit card.
To help support the school and to offset the cost of conducting this auction, a 10% buyer's premium will apply.

The school cafeteria will have hot food and beverages available for purchase.

Maryland women across the region are invited to speak to the state Commission for Women and the Calvert County Commission for Women about the challenges they face, as women, and what would make their lives better.

With Simon Spalding, Musical Historian and Maritime History Educator. Visitor Center Auditorium, 18751 Hogaboom Lane, St. Mary’s City, MD 20686. Starting with the archaeological evidence of ancient Mediterranean shipwrecks, Simon traces the development of shipboard cuisine up to the fighting and trading fleets of England, Spain, and Portugal in the 16th and early 17th centuries. This culinary sea voyage is full of surprising details, from the challenges faced by early medieval Scandinavians, to the differences in maritime culinary practice between Mediterranean and Northern waters. Learn how the Spanish Armada was hobbled by problems of food storage, and how foodstuffs and food preparation varied between the English and Iberian fleets in 1588. Using primary sources, Mr. Spalding will explore not only food, but many aspects of shipboard routine aboard English ships in the early 17th century. The program is illustrated with examples of poetry and song. Free. (240) 895-4990 or info@HSMCdigshistory.org. www.HSMCdigshistory.org.
