Date: 9/16/2016
Start Time: 7:30 AM

Local entrepreneurship advocates and Startup Maryland are bringing the STRT1UP Road Show to Charles County. The event will take place on Friday, Sept. 16, from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Indian Head Village Green (100 Walter Thomas Road, Indian Head). This year marks the fifth annual state-wide STRT1UP Road Show tour.

The program is an opportunity for technology businesses, start-ups, and anyone interested in innovation to pitch ideas, network, and learn about the Town of Indian Head, the Naval Support Facility Indian Head, and Charles County organizations that support business growth and development. STRT1UP will showcase the work currently going on in Indian Head and coordinated efforts to grow business near the Naval Support Facility Indian Head.

"We had a great Startup Maryland event last year with community support. This year, the entire Charles County entrepreneurial ecosystem is pulling together to support the event," said Kim Mozingo, the Energetics Technology Center's manager of Technology Business Growth and the TechFire incubation program. "With the energy growing around the Town of Indian Head and the Base, holding the event this year at the Village Green Pavilion just makes sense."

During the event, entrepreneurs are invited to climb on the Startup Maryland bus and pitch their idea/business in a mobile video studio. Videos are uploaded to YouTube and then open to public viewing/voting, allowing the entrepreneurs, sponsors, investors and tour hosts to activate social networks for even broader awareness and celebration. Entrepreneurs are provided coaching, guidance, and support from business mentors and other leaders from academia, incubators/accelerators, economic development agencies, and service providers as well as active angel investors.

"We're excited to be hosting STRT1UP Road Show this year," said Indian Head Mayor Brandon Paulin. "We are encouraged by the local collaboration of the town's revitalization efforts and support from the base at Indian Head, one of the county's largest employers.

This year's STRT1UP Road Show stop in Charles County is a collaboration of the county's entrepreneurial ecosystem partners, including: Energetics Technology Center and TechFire, Charles County Department of Economic Development, College of Southern Maryland's Entrepreneur and Innovation Institute, Charles County Chamber of Commerce and the Military Alliance Council, Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technology Division, Town of Indian, Maryland Technology Development Corporation, Small Business Development Center Southern Region, and the Southern Maryland Innovation and Technology initiative.

For more information about the event and to register to pitch your business idea, contact Kim Mozingo at 301-645-6637, ext. 711 or kmozingo@etcmd.com or visit startupmd.org/startup-maryland-announces-2016-strt1up-road-show/ .

Madison, Montpelier, and the Constitution, takes place on Friday, Sept. 16 at 4 p.m., in Cole Cinema, Campus Center. During his own lifetime, James Madison was dubbed “Father of the Constitution,” a title he humbly dismissed. Madison, though, would have a larger hand than any other individual of the founding era in shaping the American political system of government. Kyle M. Stetz, manager of Student and Family Programs at James Madison’s Montpelier will explore the work Madison completed, before, during, and after the constitutional convention of 1787. Presented in cooperation with the St. Mary’s College Political Science department.

Christ Episcopal Church Chaptico is excited to offer an evening of good food, good friendship and good entertainment as we present a Gilligan's Island Murder Mystery - "The Last Cruise of the S.S. Minnow," performed by the Hickory Dickory Dark players. Put on your best Hawaiian shirt and join Captain Judas "Skipper" Stubing for a pleasant dinner cruise aboard the S.S. Millennium Minnow (otherwise known as the Parish Hall), where things quickly go awry when it is discovered that a bomb is hidden on board.

Dinner will feature grilled salmon and grilled chicken, roast red potatoes, green beans and salad, followed by a variety of scrumptious desserts, and as part of the evening's fundraising, we'll have a silent auction and raffle.

Tickets are on sale at the Parish Hall office (301-884-3451) at $50 for dinner and the show. Suitable for ages 13 and up. Food and sitters will be available for younger kids (donation from parents suggested). Note: please let us know in advance how many children you are bringing and if there are any food issues we need to be aware of.

Will Ginseng be persuaded to sing a song? Will Marcy Ann reveal her recipe for coconut cream pie? Did Thirsty and Lovely bring enough clothes for the trip? And who is the mysterious Mrs. Brown? For the answers to these and other silly questions, get your tickets now!

Celtic Society of Southern Maryland, in partnership with the Calvert Marine Museum spice up the Autumn Celtic Music Concert, Friday, September 16 at 8 p.m., by showcasing Celtic music from Wales with an up and coming talented group called, "Calan." Fiddles, guitar, accordion, bagpipes and step dancing explode into life as Calan perform songs and tunes from their new album-Dinas. Infectious guitar rhythms and high voltage routines give way to beautiful and haunting songs as they continue touring throughout the USA to celebrate their latest release. Amongst the traditional Welsh melodies and brand new original material, they breathe fire into the folk tale of Merlin and The Two Dragons: A song that tells the story of why there is a dragon on the Welsh flag.

This performance will be held at the Calvert Marine Museum's Harms Gallery. Concert begins at 8 p.m. with doors opening at 7 p.m. for pre-concert beer and wine sales. Tickets can be purchased in advance on line (some discounts apply) at cssm.ticketleap.com.
