   Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run - All Fitness Levels

On Friday, June 10th, 2016, at approximately 9:00 a.m. the annual St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics will take off from Mission BBQ in San Souci Plaza. Through the years, the Torch Run has become one of the Special Olympics’ biggest fundraisers, and participating in the Special Olympics Torch Run is an excellent way to show your support for Special Olympics Athlete

The entry fee of $15 covers all events including breakfast, provided by Chic-Fil-A and Dunkin Donuts, and a light lunch and awards ceremony, sponsored by Mission BBQ and Trophies by Design. Breakfast and warm-ups begin at 8:00 a.m. The race will kick-off at approximately 9:00 a.m.

As you explore the grounds, you will see a special outdoor display that examines the history of the U.S. flag, as well as many other flags used in our nation's history.

This National Park Service site has:
*Visitor Center with a film, a book store, and the two museum exhibits, which are called "The Dream Rocket Project: An Art Exhibit" and :Echoes of Liberty: The Impact of the Declaration of Independence."
*Tours of the mansion known as Haberdeventure
*Two miles of hiking trails

Bring a chair or blanket and relax to music and singing from this very talented group. A wide variety of music will be played, including Phantom of the Opera, Don't Stop Believing, The Lord of the Dance, Somebody to Love and Eine Kleine Nachtmusik to name just a few!

Various ensembles will perform together and separately - choir, orchestra, brass quartet, string quintet and SMYOC Pops! Concessions will be available as well as a 50/50 raffle! For more information visit smyoc.org.

A Contra Dance, sponsored by Southern Maryland Traditional Music and Dance (SMTMD), featuring caller Elgin Perry, will be held on Friday, June 10, 2016 at the Christ Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 37497 Zach Fowler Rd, Chaptico, MD. The doors open at 7:00 pm and the dancing begins at 7:30. Contra is a traditional American style of social dance and is a huge amount of fun (and exercise) for the whole family! If you’ve ever danced a Virginia Reel or been to a Square Dance, you have a good idea how much fun it can be. If you haven’t, it’s about time you tried it! Beginners are encouraged to arrive at 7:00 to get some instruction in the various dances. Admission is $10 for non-SMTMD members; $6 for members (band members are free). No special clothing is required! You need to be comfortable, to move freely. There will be an ice cream social following the dance. For more information and directions go to www.smtmd.org
