Bill Piermattei, managing director of the environmental law program at the University of Maryland's Francis Key Carey School of Law will be discussing the application of environmental law regarding three timely issues at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at St. Mary's College of Maryland.

Co-sponsored by the Minority Students in the Social Sciences Association and the Environmental Studies Program, Piermattei will address the application of environmental law in regards to the Flint water crisis, the Obama administration's clean water plan, and the Chesapeake Bay Total Maximum Daily Load. The event will take place in room 321 of the College's library.

Amy Henderson, assistant professor of economics for St. Mary's College, said the Flint water crisis "raises significant environmental justice concerns" and the TMDL requirements "will be of particular interest to local residents." In addition to his presentation, Mr. Piermattei will have lunch with a select group of St. Mary's College students, and will also provide guidance to pre-law students in one-on-one meetings.

About Piermattei:

Bill Piermattei joined the School of Law in 2010 after 10 years of private practice civil litigation.

Piermattei co-teaches environmental advocacy and is currently editing "Environmental Law in Court."

Prior to arriving at the School of Law, Piermattei was an associate at Venable, LLP in Baltimore. As a litigator he represented businesses in a variety of civil suits, including toxic torts, products liability, business torts and professional malpractice.

He is a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law with honor in 1999. He concentrated in environmental law.
