The Department of Community Services' community-based recreational youth basketball leagues are, first and foremost, intended to provide a positive social experience for young boys and girls with emphasis placed on good sportsmanship, fun, and exercise. Children are placed on teams based on area, age, height, and experience. Coaches are NYSCA certified. Players and coaches receive a team shirt. Visit your Community Center for size samples. It is your responsibility to select the correct shirt size. Leagues may be combined if not enough participation.

Program is open to children age 7-17 (as of June 1, 2007). The cost is $45/child. REGISTRATION IS LIMITED with a deadline of May 23. Late registration May 24-25 with additional $10 late fee. Late registrations, based on availability, will only be accepted at the Department of Community Services Building in La Plata.

Practices for age 7-10 will be scheduled to start no later than 7:00pm, Mon-Thu. Coaches are responsible for contacting you regarding schedules (slated to begin the week of June 25). The two-game-per-week season (no practices) runs July 2-August 3. All age levels will be countywide leagues. Games will be played at Hanson, Henson, Mattawoman, Stoddert, and Wade.

Earn A Refund! If you volunteer to coach, you will receive a 50% refund off of your child's registration fee, if selected to coach. This refund applies to one participating child only. The refund will be processed after the first game. Please do not exclude the refund from your enrollment fee.
