LONGABERGER BASKET BINGO FUNDRAISER for Autism

The Autism Project, a non-profit organization, serving students and their families on the autism spectrum in Calvert, Anne Arundel, and Prince George’s counties will be hosting a BASKET BINGO FUNDRAISER.

Date: Sunday March 25, 2007

Time: Doors open at 12:00 noon, Games begin at 2:00pm

Place: Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department, 3170 West Ward Road, Dunkirk Maryland

Admission: $20 for 20 Games, additional door prizes and 50/50 raffles

Autism is one of the fastest growing developmental disabilities with one in 150 children. While there is no cure for autism, there are treatments and educational approaches that may reduce some of the challenges associated with this disability. Through a variety of fundraisers and donations, “The Autism Project” has been able to purchase much needed equipment for our clients and a large van for transporting clients on social field trips. We have continued to grow and expand our services and now find it essential to find additional space to house “The Autism Project” locally. Our new facility would give us rooms to conduct one on one therapy sessions on site instead of having our therapists travel to many different locations. In addition, we would able to expand the number of Social Skill Therapies Groups offered to our clients. Our interactive social group programs are divided by the client’s ages and abilities, with the focus on self-advocacy, disclosure, building self-esteem and making new friends. Our clients engage in discussions, role-play, social games, outside sports, and a variety of exciting fields trips. These groups have produced some long term friendships for the clients and their families. Their many unique experiences have been truly appreciated and have created a lot of "just plain fun"!

Our organization is small and our workers are few; but with individuals throughout our community assisting us, we will surely be able to continue our good works. Most importantly, you will enable us purchase a home where we can assist children with autism spectrum disorders in a safe place where they can live, learn, and lead healthy lives.
