Joseph Leroy Jenifer (affectionately known as Donald), peacefully entered into eternal rest on Thursday September 4, 2014. Joseph was born on December 17, 1944, to the late William DeSales Jenifer and the late MaryAnn Toye.

Donald was preceded in death by his sons William, Patrick (Lee), and Joseph (Maurice). His siblings Richard, Agnes, and Doris.

Joseph was educated through the Charles County Public Schools system. He later started his emplyment with WSSC, retiring after 20 years of service. He was later employed with PEPCO until his health declined.

Joseph enjoyed spending time with family and friends, attending to his lawn, and playing cards. But his favorite past time was watching WWE on television.

Joseph met and fell in love with, Eleanor (Tootie) Shorter in 1967. They later wed on July 12, 1982.

Joseph is survived by his wife Eleanor, his sons (Darryl Kitt (Eleanor), Peter Shorter (Cecilia), Keith Shorter (Maurishka), daughters Eleanor Shorter-Johnson (Cardinal), Jeannette Turner (Richard), Sandra Shorter (James), and Donna Shorter (Delmont). His brothers John Coates, Harry Coates (Helen), James Toye, Daniel Jenifer (Elaine), David Jenifer, and Bruce Jenifer (Linda), sisters Irene Coates, Mary Toye (Jimmy), Eva Toye, Anna Mae Toye, Helen Hargrove, Janet Long (John), Yolanda Plater, Betty Jennifer, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, as well as other extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday September 11, 2014 at St. Marys Catholic Church, 13705 Notre Dame Place, Bryantown, Maryland from 10:00 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 a.m. Interment Church Cemetery. Arrangements provided by Adams Funeral Home.
