Joseph "Joe" Ernest Nutwell Sr., of Waldorf, MD died on July 6, 2014 at the MedStar Southern MD Hospital Center in Clinton, MD. He was 77 years old.

Joe was the owner and sign fabricator/sheet metal craftsman of Waldorf Display. A few of his notable sign fabrications were the paint bucket and the Walls Wigwam Bakery as well as many other landmark signs from the 50's, 60's, and 70's in Waldorf, MD.

He was originally from Gallant Green, MD and during his travels, he found a home in Phoenix, AZ and later returned to Waldorf, MD. He was very strong and athletic. He loved working with his hands and restoring historic vehicles. He always had a joke to tell, had a sense of humor, and knew no stranger. He especially loved his ice cream.

He is the son of the late James Leo Nutwell and the late Ruth Temple Goldsmith Nutwell. He is also predeceased by his wives, Jeannette DeMarr Nutwell and JoAnn Nutwell; his son, James "Jimbo" Nutwell; his brothers, Jimmy, Johnny, and Ricky; and his sister, Rosemary.

He is survived by his son, Joseph "Jo Jo" Nutwell Jr. and his wife Deborah; his daughters, Patti Oakes and her husband Dave and Lori Kotlarsic and her husband Steve; his brothers, Buzzy Sr. and Tommy; his sisters, Sissie and Gracie; and his grandchildren, Jeannie Suite, Johnny Goldsmith, Mike Owens, Joe "Grady" Nutwell III, Danny Nutwell, Geoffrey Kotlarsic, Ryan Nutwell, Meghan Kotlarsic, Kristi Owens, Brittany Kotlarsic, and Winter Nutwell. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren.

Friends received on Friday, July 11, 2014 from 12PM until the Time of Remembrance at 1PM at the Raymond Funeral Service Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD. Interment will be private.
