Lawrence LeRoy Gray, Sr., of Bel Alton, Maryland died on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at the Calvert County Nursing Center in Prince Frederick, MD. He was 83 years old. Born on August 26, 1930 in Chaptico, MD he was the son of the late Josephine Quade Gray and the late Martin Goddard Gray.

Larry, as he was affectionately known, served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War until he was Honorably Discharged in 1952 at the rank of Corporal. He then worked as an Operating Engineer at Bolling Air Force Base for over 25 years and as a manager with Pargas for over 30 years. Larry was a member of the American Legion Post 122 in Avenue, a member and past commander of the V. F. W. Post 10081 in Bel Alton. He was a member and served as an Usher at St. Ignatius Catholic Church at Chapel Point.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Margaret DeMarr and Lucy Gray; his brother Leonard Gray.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Dorothy M. Gray; his sons Larry LeRoy Gray Jr. of Bel Alton and William Bryan Childs of Denver, CO; his daughters Cora Sue Gray and her husband William T. Gray of St. Leonard, MD, Sarah Ann Rugg and her husband William R. Rugg of Colorado Springs, CO; his brothers Joseph Gray, William Gray and Elmer Gray; his sisters Maude Combs, Mary Farrell and Pearl Crutchfield; his grandchildren Jessica Gray, Jeffrey Gray, Billy Rugg, Daniel Gray, Nicholas Rugg, Adam Childs, Joseph Childs, Zachary Rugg and Jonathan Rugg; his great grandchildren Kara Gray, Abigail Rugg and Jeffrey W. Gray; also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 from 2PM to 4PM and from 6PM to 8PM with prayers beginning at 7PM at the Raymond Funeral Service, P.A. 5635 Washington Ave., La Plata, MD.

Mass will be offered on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 beginning at 11AM at the St. Ignatius Catholic Church at Chapel Point. Interment at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery with military honors.
