Frank Laurence Maio, Jr., 78, of Great Mills, MD, passed away on May 22, 2014 at his residence in Great Mills, MD. Frank was born on August 4, 1935, in Washington, D.C., to the late Frank Laurence Maio, Sr. and Esther Palmer.

He graduated from DeMatha High in Bladensburg, MD. On August 5, 1955, he proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country as a "tunnel rat" during the cold war and Vietnam until his honorable discharge on August 4, 1963. After his military service he worked for numerous government agencies, federal and county and retired after 38 years of service. Frank then became a substitute teacher at Margaret Brent Middle School and Chopticon High School.

Frank married his wife Margaret (Peggy) Maio on July 18, 1992. In addition to his wife, Frank is also survived by his children, Deborah Steele (Ray) of North Carolina, Gina Buckey (Richard) of Mars Hill, ME, Colleen Williams of Bladensburg, MD, Marlo Hooper of Pennsylvania, Frank Maio of New York, Millard Garland III (Dawn) of Lexington Park, MD, James Garland (Delphina) of Mechanicsville, MD, and Christopher Garland of Waldorf, MD; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Family will receive friends for Frank's Life Celebration on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea, 14400 Solomons Island Road, Solomons, MD 20688. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Monsignor Mike Wilson at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf, MD.
