Lucille A. Cummings, 91, of Lexington Park, MD died peacefully in her sleep at Chesapeake Shores Nursing Center on March 19, 2014 at 6:30 p.m.

She was born the last of 14 children by Italian Immigrants. She was the sole survivor, but is now being reunited. Lucille genuinely adored people. She loved making others laugh and was a natural born comedian. She was much loved by the people whose spirit she touched.

She graduated from the prestigious St. Mary's Hospital Nurses training unit in New Haven, Connecticut as a Registered Nurse and soon shipped off to San Diego, California with her sister, Susan, also an R.N. It was there that a two week, love at first sight, whirlwind romance with her husband-to-be, Jeff Cummings occurred. There are no words to express the exhilaration of such an experience. Within two weeks they were married. Jeff was soon re-stationed to Corpus Christi, Texas, where their first child, Wayne was born. The next stop would be Patuxent River Naval Air Station. It was here in the Navy Hospital that their second child, Candace came to life.

After thirteen years, with a Chief's rank, Jeff opted out of the Navy to open his own appliance sales and business service, The Electronic Service Company, on Great Mills Road. Lucille gave up her nursing career, temporarily, to raise her children, resuming part-time once they were somewhat grown-up. She was highly regarded as a nurse for her diligence and compassion for her patients.

Lucille was well loved and respected in the community and she will be missed, no doubt.

Family will receive friends for Lucille's Life Celebration on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 22375 Three Notch Rd, Lexington Park, MD 20653. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Following the service and interment the family will host refreshments in the church hall.

Lucille is survived by her husband, Jeff, and her daughter, Candy. She is with her sisters and brothers, Wayne, her son, and her angels would love to be the entertaining hostesses. Know that she will be there in spirit.

Although she will be dearly missed, the Eternal Father has called her home, and she is at peace!

Arrangements by the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., Leonardtown, MD.
