Julia Nannette Herath, 34, affectionately known as Jewels, of Great Mills, MD left to receive her reward in heaven on March 3, 2014. She was born June 25, 1979 at NAS Jacksonville Naval Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL, the beloved daughter of Douglas Vernon & Cynthia Ann Herath.

Julia had an appreciation of fashion and appearance and never tired of shopping for clothes and shoes for herself as well as her nieces and nephew. Many of her family and friends would often indulge her in this quest.

Julia loved designing jewelry for family and friends and was making it here career. She enjoyed music with a passion, and studied guitar and keyboard. She shared it with her father while watching the television shows, "The Voice", "American Idol", and "Dancing with the Stars". Movies provided her entertainment, fantasy and a script for any occasion. She was able to quote so many verbatim to the exasperation of those watching with her.

She shared her love of animals with her mother and together acquired a veritable menagerie. Her best loved pets included her "fat Cat" Fluffy, her snuggly parrot JJ, and her dogs Sienna and Annie.

Julia possessed dignity and strength in the face of hardship that was an inspiration to all who knew her. And still, she was the kindest, sweetest, and most honest and loving young woman anyone has known. Her wonderful hugs will be sorely missed.

Julia is loved and will be missed by her parents, her grandfather Walter Girod; sisters, Stephanie A. Earnest(Joseph Donald), and Angela C Herath; nieces, Brayden and Bryce Earnest and nephew Landon Herath, her doting Aunts Dee Dee Mc Means(Lonnie),and Nannette Welker(Scott)and her Uncle Walt Girod(Diana) and many other family and friends.

A "Celebration of Life" will take place in Jacksonville, FL at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Fisher House, 24 Stokes RD, Bethesda, MD 20814-5078.

Arrangements provided by Brinsfield Funeral Home.
