Charles Philip Read, 62, of Mechanicsville, MD, passed away on January 15, 2014. Born May 20, 1951 in Washington, DC, he was the son of Robert Read and the late Doris Hardy Read.

On December 2, 1978, he married Linda Marie Catterton. They just celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary.

He had a long career in HVAC, both as a technician and an instructor, throughout Southern Maryland and the Washington DC area. He was currently employed at Lincoln College of Technology in Columbia, MD. He taught CCD at Immaculate Conception Church in Mechanicsville, MD and was active with Boy Scout Troop 1782 for many years. He served as president for the Chopticon High School Band Boosters, where he was a member for nine years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, helping others, and serving the community.

Charles is survived by his loving wife, Linda Read, his father, Robert Read, children, Charles Read, Jr. (Tasha), Brian Read (Stacey), Daniel Read, and Katlyn Calvano (Justin); siblings, Robert Read, Jr. (Phyllis) and Susan Miner (Frank); grandchildren, Alyssa, Nathan, Jacob, and one on the way, many nieces, nephews and friends, and beloved grand puppy, Penny.

Family will receive friends for Charles' Life Celebration Visitation on Sunday, January 19, 2014 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. The Funeral Service will also be held at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home on Monday, January 20, 2014 at 11:00 am, with Deacon Bill Kyte officiating. Internment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, 8000 Woodyard Road, Clinton, MD 20735.
