Douglas Roy Bankert, 77, of Fort Washington, Maryland passed away at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC on January 13, 2013. He was born on June 2, 1935 in Washington, DC to the late Robert Milton Bankert and the late Alda Mae (Neff) Bankert.

He was a Seaman in the U.S. Navy where he was an aircraft mechanic. Later, Douglas worked as an Electrician/Elevator Mechanic for the Bureau of Engraving & Printing until his retirement in 1994. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Moose Lodge, VFW, and American Legion. Douglas enjoyed small engine repair, tinkering in his garage, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Douglas is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rosie Ann (Windsor) Bankert of Ft. Washington, MD; his daughters, Denise M. McCloskey (Dennis) of Waldorf, MD and Sharon A. Bankert of Ft. Washington, MD; his sister, Mary R. Treffert (Joseph) of Arab, Alabama; and his grandchildren, Kyle, Kimberly, Brendan, and Michael McCloskey of Waldorf, MD.

Family and friends will be received for Douglas' Life Celebration on Thursday, January 17, 2013 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with prayers beginning at 7:00 PM with Deacon Robert Martin at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. There will be a Mass on Friday, January 18, 2013 at 10:00 AM at St. Peter's Catholic Church of Waldorf, 3320 St. Peter's Drive, Waldorf, MD 20601. Father Zygmunt Kurzawinski will officiate. Interment will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Maryland Veteran Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, MD 20623.
