Allen Harold Kitzmiller, 88, of Mechanicsville, MD, departed this life at his home surrounded by his family on September 15, 2012. Born November 13, 1923 in Ervin, WV, he was the son of the late Henry and Ada (Snyder) Kitzmiller.

Allen moved from Queen Anne's, MD to Mechanicsville, MD 10 years ago. He worked in the construction field as a heavy equipment operator. He served as Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII, serving four years in the Pacific theater as a corpsman in the medic unit and one year escorting soldiers home to their love ones. Allen enjoyed woodworking, playing cards, and fishing. He had a love for music, dancing and spending time with his family.

Allen is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Betty Kitzmiller; his children, Mary Goggin (Jerry) of Tucson, AZ, David Kitzmiller (Shirley) of Gaithersburg, MD, Allen Kitzmiller, Jr. (Francie) of Dickerson, MD, Robert Kitzmiller (Sandra) of Rockville, MD, and Paula Davis (Joseph) of Mechanicsville, MD. Allen has 17 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Allen is preceded in death by his brothers, Albert Kitzmiller, Orval Kitzmiller, John Kitzmiller, Bennie Kitzmiller; and his sisters, Nellie Harsh, Viola Wolfe, and Althea Wolfe.

Family will receive friends for Allen's Life Celebration on Thursday, September 27, 2012 from 2-4 PM, at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charolotte Hall, MD 20622. A Memorial Service will be held from 4-5 PM with Kimberly A. McKnight officiating.

The family will also hold another memorial service in Western Maryland at a date to be announced later.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Mary's, P.O. Box 625, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
