On Thursday, April 19, 2012, Deacon Eugene Samuel Daye departed this life at Cherry Lane Nursing Center, Laurel, Maryland with his honorary daughter, Jamarra (Boo) by his side. Eugene was born on June 4, 1925 in Burlington, North Carolina to the late Eugene and Ira Daye.

He attended schools in Burlington, North Carolina after which he joined the United States Army and served his country on the front lines in World War II. Upon his departure from active duty, he went on to work at the Naval Ordnance Station in Indian Head, Maryland as a supervisor in the Explosives Department. Eugene retired in July 1987 after many years of dedicated service.

Eugene was baptized in 1952 at the Mount Zion Baptist Church, South Norwalk, Connecticut under the leadership of the late Rev. Medley. He joined the Mount Hope Baptist Church and was baptized in 1959 by former Pastor, Rev. Rodney L. Young. He was very committed to his church and to his Lord. Over the years, he served in many ministries in the church. He joined the Usher Board in 1959, the Helping Hand Club in 1973, the Prayer Band in 1974, Bible Classes in 1988 and the Male Chorus in 1987.

Eugene enjoyed working with his hands and completed many household carpentry projects. He also enjoyed being on the outside working in the yard. In his earlier years, photography was of great interest to him and he took pride in the photographs he captured. He was often found quietly reading his bible and spoke often of the goodness of the Lord.

In addition to his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by his faithful wife, Bernice E. Daye.

Eugene leaves to cherish his memories; three daughters, Gloria, Brenda and Yvette; two brothers; Earl and Robert Daye; and other relatives and friends.

Viewing, 9am until time of Service, 11am, Saturday, April 28, 2011 at Mt. Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 8705 Gilroy Road, Nanjemoy, Maryland. Interment, Church Cemetery.
