Mr. Shorter was a brick layer for 30 plus years with Pierce and Gibson Construction and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pomfret, MD. He was an AA Team Leader for 20 years. He loved music, dancing, baseball, and the Dallas Cowboys. He was known as the resident funny man and was the best of grandfathers.

He is son of the late Harry Shorter and the late Emma L. Washington Shorter.

He is also preceded in death by one late sister, Emma Shorter and one late grandchild, Russell "Leon" Lyles, Jr.

Mr. Shorter is survived by six sons, James (Wendy) Shorter of Lusby, MD, Joseph (Vickie) Shorter of Lexington Park, MD, Thomas Shorter of Lexington Park, MD, Harry (Pam) Shorter of Lusby, MD, Clifton (Susan) Shorter of Lusby, MD, and Robert (Deloris) Shorter of KY; one daughter, Patricia (Calvin) Shorter of Hughesville, MD; former wife, Elizabeth Ann Shorter; one brother, Theodore (Joyce) Shorter of Waldorf, MD; two sisters, Mary Lancaster of Waldorf, MD and Theresa (Clifton) Thomas of Marbury, MD. Also survived by 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

His Visitation will be held on Monday, April 2, 2012 from 10AM until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pomfret, MD. Fr. Mark Smith will be clergy with pallbearers, Calvin and Theodore Shorter, John, Raymond, and Vincent Lancaster, and Albert Lyles. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Shorter and Clarence Lyles. The internment will immediately follow the Mass in the Church Cemetery.
