Shirley June Oppermann, 83, of Mechanicsville, MD, died February 16, 2012 in Ocala, FL. Born October 18, 1928 in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of George Arnold Grimes and Mary Louise Grimes.

Shirley attended Eastern High School in Washington, D.C. and later married Louis Oppermann, Jr. on March 17, 1947. A member of Christ Episcopal Church, Chaptico, MD, she loved volunteering and baking for church events. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 238 in Hughesville, MD. She also volunteered at the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home. Shirley also loved traveling to visit children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Shirley was predeceased by her parents, husband, Louis Oppermann, and son, Roger. She is survived by her sons, Paul Oppermann (Toni), Robert Oppermann (Shelby), and daughters, Sherry Oppermann Carruth (John - deceased), Pamela Oppermann Tyson (Richard), and Paula Oppermann Deutsch (Mike); 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends for Shirley's Life Celebration on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 from 2:00-4:00pm and from 6:00-8:00pm at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD (American Legion Auxiliary Service at 7 pm). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 9:00am at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD at 11:00am.

Family will receive friends at the American Legion in Hughesville after the interment. Pallbearers will be Warren Carruth, Eric Oppermann, Bobby Oppermann, Ricky Tyson, Mark Carruth, Justin Tyson, Michael Deutsch, Mike Deutsch and Mike Gardiner.
