The Honorable Charles Jenkins "Jenks" Mattingly, III, 68, of Hollywood, MD died January 16, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by many family and friends. Born August 7, 1943 in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Charles Jenkins Mattingly, Jr. and Mary Loretta (Gough) Mattingly.

He was a 1961 graduate of Ryken High School. On June 16, 1977, Jenks married his beloved wife of 33 years, Catherine Ann Canter Mattingly. After 32+ years of service, Jenks retired from Patuxent River Naval Air Station as a Fire Inspector. He served two terms as a Judge of the Orphans Court for St. Mary's County. He was a past member of the St. Mary's County Liquor Board and Past President of the Maryland State Firemen's Association (2001-2002). He was an active member of the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department, currently serving as their Chaplain, and was a Chief, Past President and Past Vice President. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. John's and the Hollywood Optimist Club.

His hobbies included playing, watching and coaching softball, running fire calls with Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department, going through the steps of the Southern Maryland Volunteer Fire Association and the Maryland State Firemen's Association. He owned two bars, Towne Inn and Jenks's Dew Drop Inn. He enjoyed playing cards with friends, especially the nights at Rita B's, family vacations to Disney World and Ocean City, taking his grandchildren to and from wherever they desired and spending time with his dogs, Pepper and Cyann.

Jenks is survived by his children, Charles Jenkins "C.J." Mattingly, IV (Nicole), Kimberly Ann Guy (Bradley), and Bonnie Sue Mattingly; grandchildren, Zachary Guy, Abigail Mattingly, Steven Dittmer and just recently, the newest additions, identical twin girls, Annie and Lou Lou Guy. He is also survived by his siblings, Joseph "Mussie" Mattingly (Patsy), James "Eddie" Mattingly (Susan), Stephen "Stevie" Mattingly (Shirley), William "Bill" Mattingly (Patti), Robert "Bobby" Mattingly (Tracy), Mary Loretta "Lori" Jantzen (Tom), Mary Anne McKinney (Clarke), as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Ann Canter Mattingly.

Family will receive friends for Jenks' Life Celebration on Thursday, January 19, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department. Prayers will be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Raymond Schmidt on Friday, January 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church, 43927 St. John's Church Road, Hollywood, MD 20636. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Kenny Johnson, Donnie Johnson, Glenn Thompson, Donnie Gatton, Bill Mattingly, and Boots Garner. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department, Past Presidents of the Maryland State Firemen's Association, the Hollywood Optimist Club and the Knights of Columbus of St. John's.
