Dorothy C. Neal, "Doti", 87, of Waldorf, MD, formerly a resident of New Towne Village in Leonardtown, MD, died January 7, 2012 at her residence after a courageous battle with cancer. Born August 28, 1924 in New York City, she was the daughter of Harry and Mary Carty.

Throughout her life she enjoyed working for several federal government agencies including HEW (Health, Education and Welfare) and the Washington Navy Yard, the National Wildlife Federation and the American Truck Council. She also, briefly, but proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Doti loved reading and listening to classical music.

"Doti" is preceded in death by her parents; former husband, Kenneth J. Brown, Jr.; two sisters, Jean Laviano and Audrey Reid-Adams and her beloved cat, Carlton.

She is survived by her daughters, Deena Richey of Mechanicsville, MD, Karen Bowsell (James) of Mechanicsville, MD and Lisa Glenn (Gary) of Waldorf, MD; brother, Richard Carty of Fairfax, VA; 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 12, 2012 from 4 - 7p.m. with services at 7:00p.m at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD 20622 conducted by Life Celebrant, Kimberly McKnight. Inurnment will take place on Friday, January 13, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD.
