Samuel Lee Cooke, 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 20, after a long battle with multiple sclerosis. He was the beloved husband of the late Joan Somerby Cooke.

He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Debbie Cooke of Lake Worth, Florida; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Lois Cooke of Huntingtown, Maryland; sister-in-law, Lorraine Cooke of Huntingtown, Maryland, grandchildren, Shaun Todd and Walter and Joan Cooke; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by son, Andrew; daughter Cynthia; and brothers, Harold and Alfred Cooke.

Sam served in the U. S. Army from 1952 to 1954; worked as a teacher, coach, and PPW for the Prince George's County Public Schools for 32 years; and was a resident at the Charlotte Hall Veteran's Home for the past 13 years. He formerly resided with his wife and family in District Heights and Deale, Maryland. Sam was a member of the NCAA National Soccer Championship Team at University of Maryland and continued to be an avid sports fan his entire life.

A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at Maryland Veteran's Cemetery in Cheltenham, MD on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 1 pm.

Arrangements are being provided by Lee Funeral Home in Owings, Maryland.

Memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
